Earlier today we received notification from our web hosting provider that at 8:42 AM CT this morning our website was taken offline intentionally due to an incident from an external actor intended to distribute bitcoin mining malware on your desktop or laptop device.
This did not compromise the bank’s computer system or your online credentials.
These hackers harness the CPU resources of millions of unsuspecting people as they visit redirected or deceitful websites designed to mine cryptocurrency.
If you accessed our website www.fnbbastrop.bank via a web browser on a desktop or laptop device between 6:26 AM CT and 8:42 AM CT, you may have been redirected to a different website.
If you have updated antivirus or endpoint protection software, your system should have been triggered to identify the attempt at redirect and prevent any further activity or any infection to your system.
It is important to note that any redirect from our website would have occurred prior to any secure login, thus there is no impact to security of your login credentials such as username or password for access to your online banking. You simply would have been redirected to a different site. If you accessed via our mobile banking application, there is no impact to service or security.
They restored service to our website as of 10:29 AM CT with the threat eliminated and do not anticipate any further service interruptions going forward from this incident.
